Misk Fragrance

Misk Le Java is a French-inspired fragrance bottled in Java. Guided by three key qualities; ethereal, lasting, and refined; the identity was designed to feel like an intimate escape between two worlds.

Through loose sketches, painterly textures, and organic lines, we embraced artful imperfection and effortless composition. From the very beginning, we imagined a slow afternoon scene; a Parisian man and woman dancing quietly somewhere in Java, suspended between memory and fantasy.

The packaging became an invitation into a world that exists between two references; the richness of Java, Indonesia, and the traditions of French perfumery. The project was also deeply inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien and his thoughts on fantasy as a form of escapism:

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape? If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can.”

In that spirit, Misk Le Java was created as a vessel for escapism; a momentary departure into something softer, slower, romantic, and beautifully elsewhere.
