Iramalog; Presented by Vans

Iramalog is a community-driven initiative supported by Vans Malaysia and led by Aman Ishak, that embraces, honours, and celebrates surf culture. More than a surf event, it uplifts the wider creative ecosystem—shapers, artists, illustrators, musicians, photographers, and filmmakers—both locally and internationally.

For Iramalog 2023, the theme was Simple Pleasures. We partnered with artist-illustrator Dianne of Misorama Studio—Miso created the illustrations and visual assets while Crayon Studio developed the design system. Together we handled layout and typography (including a custom typeface), produced the Iramalog manifesto handbook and invitation deck, created a Cherating guide for attendees, and coordinated systematic composition and all design deliverables. In close collaboration with Dianne, we delivered a flexible, distinctive brand system that adapts across touchpoints—comprehensive yet playful.

This was one of the most immersive projects we’ve worked on. I remember sitting by the sea while designing a poster for an impromptu activity; when the surf was flat, we simply improvised. I also remember working side by side with Noh Salleh on a lyrics pamphlet design while watching a ping pong match at Kampung Vans, Cherating. Working on this project reminded me how much I love being fully present in the design process. There were many moments like these where the process felt stimulating rather than disruptive.
