Misk Fragrance

Misk Le Java is a French-inspired fragrance bottled in Java. Through loose sketches and painterly textures we imagined a slow afternoon scene; a Parisian man and woman dancing quietly somewhere in Java, suspended in fantasy.

The packaging became an invitation into a world that exists between two references; the richness of Java, Indonesia, and the traditions of French perfumery. The project was also deeply inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien and his thoughts on fantasy as a form of escapism:

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape? If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can.”

In that spirit, Misk Le Java was created as a vessel for escapism; a momentary departure into elsewhere.
